Mr. Williams Blues- Sat, 28 Aug 2010 22:25:48 PDTI get by with a little help from my friends. I'll keep this short and relatively on point. I've done 190 remixes here, none of which would have been possible without you. You fine ladies and gentlemen that submit your pellas & source. Freely. Without worrying about suffocating, outdated licensing restrictions and legal caveats and the opportunity cost of profit. I recognize you with more than just an attribute. and you'll always get equal billing in my book. edit: so after some minor technical difficulties with snowflake's vocals, we're good to go! |
The Song Remains the Same (Mr Williams)- Sat, 28 Aug 2010 21:01:33 PDTMy Aux Out speakers blew out Sunday night when I was in the early stages of mixing - I wrote Dave at Aux about Freedom to Share and how I'd use their speakers for all the mixes I've done on ccM (they offered to replace them/upgrade me for free!) -- so this mix was done in headphones (eeeks). I've never been a cutter, so this was extremely challenging (i thought to take a picture of my pro tools session because there are so many little parts and tons of tracks) - I'm sure there is a better way to do this, I just don't know how. The transitions still need help, but they are "beyond my power to heal...." Suggestions are welcome. It felt important to include samples from the early ccM days in Freedom to Share - so I started with the Trifonic remix that includes many of the Wired Magazine CD samples -- I had a blast singing with Cee-Lo (saw Gnarls Barkley up close Coachella 2006). Happened to find Vidian's track by accident when I was searching for Danger Mouse and it seemed to fit perfectly with Loveshadow's letter. Then needed something to create the transitions back and forth between Trifonic & Vidian - hisboyelroy's remix of Vieux Farka Toure seemed perfect. Thanks to the Williams Family Singers for recording Dear Mr Williams and to spinningmerkaba and SackJo22 for providing mix feedback when I was losing my mind. Remixed Mixes by: Trifonic, Vidian & hisboyelroy Vocals by: Loveshadow, Cee-Lo, Luke Jennings (The Rapture), Jemini, Vieux Farka Toure, Scomber, KCentric, Songboy3, projectQuestion, Mana Junkie, & the Williams Family Singers Samples by: Danger Mouse, Beastie Boys, The Rapture, Vieux Farka Toure, Matmos, Zap Mama, Spoon, DJ Dolores, My Morning Jacket, a minor theory, Subliminal, bigbonobo Williams Family Singers are: SackJo22, Essesq, Debbizo, Admiral Bob, Hektor Thillet, Porch Cat, Panu Moon, St. Paul, Ivan Chew, Franklin Viator, spinningmerkaba |

No One Is Alone- Wed, 18 Aug 2010 13:52:46 PDTI played with some of Toucan Music's beats from Eternal Truth, slowing, overlaying, offsetting, etc. Also the pad is derived from the organ stem from Eternal Truth. I had been playing with fourtrack's horn stem in another piece that wasn't working out too well but I really like it so I used some here. And there's always a place for the sounds of El.ector. The words are PorchCat's. And lo the words are good. |
whatchusayin- Tue, 17 Aug 2010 20:25:45 PDTI use a pella MiElle hasn't posted up yet too |
The Remixin' Blues- Tue, 10 Aug 2010 20:33:36 PDTThe blues is a very subversive genre, but a nice genre. It treats the subjects of its' criticism very gently. The model for this, to me, is "Mayor Daley Blues" by Eddy Clearwater, which gently chides the distance of politicians from the common man by inviting the mayor to start a blues bar up with the liquor commissioner. So here's my gentle reproach for Paul Williams, delivered back to him with some of his own career highlights. LYRICS: I wish Mr. Williams would come remix a song It's a rainy day Monday and we've only just begun You could add an Old Fashioned Love song to these blues were puttin' down Youve already got permission, so why don't you come play along Come on down, Mr. Williams, wont you please come on down The remixin' blues have come to town Out in the country, Mr. Williams, you can groove So remix til the family of man moves Dont worry about the royalties, its a non-commercial song And we gonna sing it down, down all night long Come on down, Mr. Williams, wont you please come on down The remixin' blues have come to town You know in Voyager, when the doctor sang so fair The holographic singing made you want to share Im singing to you, to change your heart and mind Get you tapping with those Qomar feet 'til "it's remix time!" Come on down, Mr. Williams, wont you please come on down The remixin' blues have come to town |
Lulla Baby (interlude)- Wed, 04 Aug 2010 22:03:33 PDTi wish there was a longer pella with at least one more verse.. also i ran short of the time. sorry for it being short |
I Dont Hurt My Love (pseudo-format Mix)- Sat, 17 Jul 2010 13:50:29 PDTThis took a VERY long time to make.. Well, Longer than my usual 1 or 2 days. Started off totally different, Changed, then changed again. I cant keep changing it or I'll never submit it :D I need new software :\ Been using FL studios since I started and am too scared to branch off. o.o But I think its about time. Anyone know something thats good and not super complex??? So about this song.. I took out some Verses, but nothing to drastic. I really liked the extras Surveillance Party added, like the Whistling and humming and Vocoder tracks.. Good thing, cause I cant whistle :P Had to sift through Samples to find those little gems that would just click. Like scombers' Synth and an edited guitar riff by Blues agent. I kind of like this one :) Want to make dance, want to make others dance :) But i'm not quiet there yet.. |
just so (picky)- Thu, 15 Jul 2010 14:28:04 PDTI took the cool beats from the latter part of JSP's mix In Between, chopped and layered them a bit, and lightly stirred in fragments of melody. Colab's piano (though the most repeated piano part is also from the JSP mix), admiral bob's mandolin (and a not too discernable secondary bass), and djvadim's horn. |
Too Young- Wed, 14 Jul 2010 12:00:38 PDTBeautiful pell by Snowflake. Pitty, but I couldn't fix the distortion on the vocal... |
Sleep Lightly- Wed, 07 Jul 2010 13:48:28 PDTI had the privilege of working with the great Ms DeB on this. As always, it's a fabulous vocal, and a dream to mix. There's a video of this mix here |
Through the Edge- Tue, 29 Jun 2010 16:47:18 PDT(Part II of a series: Part I, Part III, Part IV, Part V.) That taste in my mouth; I'll never get used to it. The Sleep does weird things, to a body, to a person. The thoughts of endless black, the whispers of the void, still linger in my ears, and mind. I see the haze. The beautiful, the glowing, the galactic haze. We are coming upon the stars now. It is so disorientating, the light, so distracting, so blinding. I need to think and breathe, think and breathe. There is all this gravity, all this radiation, all this light. Planets and stars, asteroids and comets, strange webs of dark matter, to the left and the right, breath to breath, night to light. Here we go through the edge! do I remember how to fly? |
